Living a Lie...
It had been years since the last word with any love had been spoken between them, and there was an unbroken silence about their relationship... Years of tolerance would soon conclude to a night of immense emotion...
That fateful night came as the usual "rituals" were carried out... "Don't you dare enter without washing your dirty feet outside!", yelled the old man. With much reluctance , the boy tried his hardest to fight the weight of anger that pulled him back from complying. "Let's just get this over with" he thought. With a squeeze of frustration, water gushed out of the bottle for less than ten seconds. With his head held up high, the boy strutted into the house after gaining "permission". "Idiot...", the boy mouthed with anger under his breath. That one word materialised to catastrophic reactions. The old man took off his glasses and stomped with heavy feet towards the boy who braced himself for the impact. A punch and kick was thrown between the two as the boy desperately aimed for a clear shot at the man's crotch with his long legs. The crossfire was short-lived as the man's woman pulled him away from the boy. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the boy ran in desperation to the kitchen and drew a knife out. Pointing the dangerously sharp utensil at the old man, the boy exclaimed, "Come on, you don't think I'll dare to use it!". As heated words of challenge were exchanged, the sister to the boy entered the arena. "Call your aunt , NOW!", she shouted, snatching the knife away to keep the old man at bay while the boy called for their aunt. The three people who did not lose their minds in the battle left the house for air that was not defiled by anger or any negativity. A long talk continued with the trio...
After what seemed like a year, their aunt came. She tried her best to settle the dispute without prejudice to either party... "I think it's best that they come with me now", she said to the mother. It was a bitter sweet moment as the siblings went back to pack their "essential-to-survive" items. With a final tight hug with his mother, the boy and girl left, determined never to return to the hell-hole.
We ALL have moments of desperation....
